In the Happy Days episode 'In the Name of Love,' Richie tries to get a tattoo to impress his crush, Cindy. Howard (Richie's father) foils his plans and Richie turns to the Fonz to give him a temporary, fake tattoo.

This aired in 1974.

October 29, 2006 -- It's a police cover-up.

NYPD brass is commanding new recruits to keep tattoos concealed in a department wide directive that likens rookies' skin art to smut at the workplace.

"Members of the service who are hired on or after January 1, 2007, must cover any visible tattoos by either regulation uniform, proper business attire, or a neutral-colored skin covering, such as a sport wrap or bandage," reads the memo issued on Thursday and signed by Commissioner Ray Kelly.

The new order, obtained by The Post, purports to be "an effort to promote uniformity in the appearance of members" and to avoid "a hostile or discriminatory work environment through the introduction of offensive material." Such offensive material is defined as tattoos, graffiti or nudie pinups.

A senior police official said there was no single incident that contributed to the rule.

But he did suggest that last year's uproar regarding a recruit's tattoo - which read "jihad" - was the type of incident police hope to avoid.

Tattoos within X-Men: The Last Stand.

The only problem I had with this film (I thought it was great) was that only the villians had tattoos.

Just launched from T-Mobile, these tattooed MOTORAZRs let everyone know that even though they've been around the block a few times, they can still break a pool cue over someone's head with the best of them. Designed by Ami James, the tattoo artist on Miami Ink, the dark grey "Dragon" and the pink "Cherry Blossom" still have the old RAZR V3's VGA camera, but work with T-Mobile's myFaves, which you can read more about here.

T-Mobile still doesn't have the MOTOKRZR, so if you want a RAZR, you're pretty much stuck with these. No word on whether these tattoos can be removed once they get married and have kids. – Jason Chen

Project Runway: Tale of the Tattoo

What's that scribbling around Runway contestant Jeffrey Sebelia's neck? His son's name, tattooed with "a lot of swirly calligraphy," Sebelia tells Scoop. Eighteen-month-old Harrison Detroit "is the love of my life, so underneath it says, 'l'amor de la mia vita.'" And if that's not enough to impress little Harrison, how about the pain Dad endured? The eight-hour tattoo job, Sebelia says, was "brutal."

Info. on Jerry Sebelia here, here & here.

One of my new tattoos.

My friend Jenn ripped out this ad that reminded her of me, in a magazine she was reading a few days ago. It's a recent ad campaign for the 'le male' fragrance for Jean Paul Gaultier. It features an obviously feminine-Chelsea-sailor-type male who is tattooed. Note the flower nipples.

This weekend I worked the Fangoria convention in Secaucus, NJ. Very low attendance. I promoted both Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and Saw 3.
