I have about a zillion and one things to post, but in my adventures I have managed to run down my own body and I now have a mild case of strep throat. I will do a full update by Thursday night, Friday morning.

Site related, I am now a permanent link now on BME right next to A&E's INKEDblog. My site has received tens of thousands of unique hits in less than one month.

Rudy & Joanne dressed up all 3 days each in different Star Wars costumes.

Friday, Rudy wore a Boba Fett costume and Joanne was Princess Leia in her E4 outfit.

On Saturday, Rudy wore a Stormtrooper with a Burger King King mask. My friend Lou was explaining to me there is this commercial on television involving this but I didn't really get it. Joanne was Princess Leia in her slave outfit.

On Sunday Rudy wore the same Saturday costume, Joanne was an expanded universe Star Wars character- Mara Jade.

Spider-Man.

There was like 4 of them bouncing around on Sunday, but I'm pretty sure this guy was the only one on Saturday. A lot of people in costume would just pose like they were taking a family portrait, so often I would have to tell them to act like a superhero before I took their photo.

I've never seen anyone wear the black-and-white costume (symbiote) of Spider-Man, I'm sure that would be a huge hit at any convention.

These are the Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars.

The one on the left was a woman, I could tell by the hair sticking out of the back of the helmet and the bottom (butt) piece of the costume. I'm pretty sure women were not allowed to be Stormtroopers in the Star Wars Universe, I definitely haven't seen any in the films or the comics offhand.

I'll call this guy the 'Striped Wonder' for now because I didn't get his name or who he was supposed to be.

Saturday he wore this costume, Sunday he wore the same thing except instead of green-yellow the stripes were black-white. Unfortunately my camera was being difficult on Sunday, so I didn't get any photos that day.

I don't know what the heck this guy is supposed to be. It had a lot of eyes and when he opened the mouth of the costume you saw the person who had to run around in it.

Update! Thanks to an anonymous poster I found out the guy in this costume was the 'Black Beast of Aaaargh' in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

One thing I noticed is that people in costume tend to draw more attention more than the actual guests/celebrities/artists at the convention. They are often mobbed by both children and adults scurrying to get their photo with them.

Various news outlets covered the convention and everywhere I turned, the dedicated were being interviewed as though they had just rescued orphaned children from a burning building. One of my roomates informed me that at one point on television on the evening news they reported there was a riot outside the convention over some disgrunted fans who weren't allowed in due to over-capacity (even though they had bought tickets).

You can read more about Saturday's fiasco here.

Top to bottom: Green Lantern, Batman, & Catwoman

I met Mark early Saturday morning around 10 AM. Mark was promoting the book Captain Marvel Culture.

Mark is wearing his 'Black Adam' costume. Black Adam pre-dates even Superman, making him one of the original-original superheroes/villians. FYI, Black Adam is Captain Marvel's original nemesis.

Mark's costume was made exclusively for him by spandexwear.com

These are two giant size Ugly Dolls. These things were running around the New York Comic-Con over the past few days. It didn't really help that were taking up the space the size of four normal humans to make the fire marshall shut down the convention in the afternoon on Saturday. I can't help but feel really bad for the people inside these costumes, as it gets EXTREMELY hot inside them.

Say hello to Boximus Prime (real name Brendan). Boximus Prime is a spin/pun on the classic Transformers character, Optimus Prime. Brendan's costume is made entirely of cardboard, duct tape & a little creativity.

I will be at the New Line Cinema booth (#154) promoting Running Scared & Final Destination 3 at the New York Comic-Con all weekend.

Friday, February 24, 2006

I met Kevin at the New York Comic-Con on Friday. He was walking around the convention posing with people. Kevin is from Canada. He came down especially for the convention and seemed pretty amped for it.

Kevin is dressed up as the Marvel comic book character, Captain America. His costume is made entirely of foam. He made the costume himself, all the foam was acquired from Canadian Tire, which he described as the Canadian equivalent of Home Depot.

I met John a few nights ago at Lesley's apartment. John was headed to B.B. King's in Times Square for one of the final E-Town Concrete shows. John wanted to drive into Times Square, but we all advised him it would be a better idea to take the subway there. I saw E-Town Concrete about 4 years ago and all I remember about them is being very loud and their singer had these huge gigantic muscles.

John is from Long Island. He has two NYHC (New York Hardcore) tattoos. He has his own variation of a character from the Nightmare Before Christmas below the NYHC tattoo on his lower right leg.

I met Gus a few months ago at Lesley's apartment. Whenever I would see Lesley last summer she'd always talk about him. It was finally nice to see her happy.

Gus told me a story on he started his sleeve. A few years ago, Gus swung by his (now) ex-girlfriend's house and had seen his friend's truck parked outside. He kicked her door in and proceeded to beat the shit out of his sleeping friend. He had caught his girlfriend cheating on him with one of his friends. Her mom threatened to sue him for breaking their door down, so Gus started to save up money. The door that Gus kicked in was valued at over $3,000- it was one of those Victorian doors that is extremely thick and has all the intricate floral carvings within it. At one point he saved up to $1,500 and decided that he wouldn't pay for the damage and ultimately left her to pay for it herself seeing that she deserved it (I agree fully on this).

Gus then used the $1,500 to get tattoos.

Gus has a whole sleeve dedicated to the Clive Barker movie Nightbreed. The artwork is from the Nightbreed comic series. There was a Nightbreed comic on Lesley's table that night. My favorite part of the sleeve are the cops in his underarm.

He is also currently work on his right leg sleeve which is dedicated to the Clive Barker film series Hellraiser.

After what seemed like an eternal quest for a watch that was unique and one that not everybody owned...I FOUND IT.

This watch talks (says the time), but the best part about it that is that it says it in JAPANESE. I don't even speak Japanese, but this watch is trilingual as it's labeled in both English and French and speaks in robotic voice in Japanese.

I found this gem in a little toy shop for under $22.00 in Nolita. This watch transcended Japanese soil where it would normally be worn by the bodies of little Japanese girls, but is now worn by this body of an all American man. The foreign import factor really isn't that special when I think about it, seeing that everything is made in Taiwan.

After what seemed like a long journey, I finally made the final night with 30 minutes to spare to catch 'The Corpse Bride' exhibit at Tribeca Cinemas' Gallery (via freenyc.net). It displayed the stop-motion models used in the film as well as various sketches and storyboards from the fim.

The film maker's take great length to create a somewhat accurate detail of the anatomy of the dead. Here you can see one of the character's split in half and all of his organs. Also, one of the characters was based on the older, fatter Elvis (see sideburns and hair).

Without spoiling the film, within the DVD, most notably the makers explain how the living are dead in terms of character, color, action and the dead are alive in terms of characters, color, action.

This film was great, don't miss it, or let anyone tell you otherwise.

mybodystory.com is about the people I meet and the stories about their bodies.

Everything is daily, meaning nothing is culled from sort of archive. I take all the photographs and write everything, unless noted.

The one thing that we have with us at all times are our bodies. I've found that usually our body is the last thing that we talk about when we meet a new person. This site is my attempt to prove that every individual I meet has a unique body story.

I will also cover any interesting aspects of 'the body' that I encounter daily within our culture.

The main page only indexes the past week. In order to get the full aspect of the site click on each individual month.

I met Britney at some point over the winter. She's a very tiny person.

Britney has sketch type design on the left portion of her back, it looks very Derek Hess-ish but she wouldn't tell me. She said it was in rememberence of her mother who passed away.

She also has a tattoo on the back of her right arm which she doesn't like very much. She wanted me to add the fact that she got in done in a trailer in South Carolina also added to her disliking.

I met Ben Guy in the basement of Don Hill's on Saturday night. He is a friend of Dana's. Ben is originally from Syracuse, NY but now lives in Brooklyn and is an illustration major. I noticed he was wearing his shirt buttoned very loosely and he had a very colorful chestpiece. At one point Ben took off his entire buttoned up shirt at the coersion by some of the photographers from England who were there that night.

He has a severed pig head tattooed on his right bicep, I asked him if it was from Lord of the Flies, but I can't really remember since there was a lot of commotion and confusion over the shirtless boy in the basement.

Ben's friend Joe wanted to put in a few cents and said that Ben is a great guy and that Ben's 'liver is a pickle.'

All of Ben's work is done by Rob Jones who works out of Skin Creations in Macclesfield, Cheshire, England.

I met Julian at Don Hill's sometime this winter. I'd always see him out but I don't think we finally talked until we started taking random photos of each other. Julian is a photographer and is currently enrolled at SVA.

This is from Julian:

so pretty much i almost believe that my body may be rejecting me from the world. or i'm just extremely accident prone.

when i was about two years old i had double hernia sergury. i don't know much about it. i don't really remember it...but it happened.

i've broken my left wrist twice. once snowboarding and once when i was really young on rollerblades.

i've had more dental sergury than anyone else i know. i had this problem where i had extra teeth in my gums so they had to go in and remove the extra teeth because they were preventing my teeth from coming down once i lost them. it's called supernumiary. i also knocked out my two bottom front teeth. they are fake now. also with my teeth it appers i'm a freak of nature because my wisdom teeth started coming in about 7 years before they were supposed to and when they did really start to come in i found out i would never have to get them removed becasue i have such a large jaw. i also still have my tonsils.

i have two uvulias. the things that hang in the back of your throat.

my nose is broken and feels like i've pretty much been doing coke for a very long time. if you push on the ball it pops and i can only breath out of one nostril. same accident where i broke my nose

i have around 30 stitches in my chin from a dodgeball accident in middle school.

my ears used to be at 00, but i've let them pretty much close up.

i've got marks on my outer left theigh and shin from two seperate accidents while riding my bike...both recent. and i have a mark on my arm cause i put a cigg out on it. i also tore the mussle on your inner theigh (i tore the one on my right) i believe it's called the asstore mussle or something like that and was on crutches for about a month. i think that is pretty much it. i don't have any tattoos but i plan on getting some soon.

- julian

p.s. i hate going to dr.'s because when i have to fill out the forms and write in about all the pervious shit it always takes forever and they never give me enough room because so much has happened.

I met Alex in the basement of Don Hill's.

Alex has a 'Skate Life' tattoo. He's been skating for 8 years now.

This is Jimi AKA the Heartist AKA Alumni 2012.

When Jimi is not writing his own version of the Revelations, he enjoys laying in piles of Nike Dunks. He predicts the world will end in December 21, 2012 when an asteroid hits the Earth. He loves the movie Willow and he eats sushi everyday.

I met Chris at some point through Jimmy in the past few months.

Chris got into a snowboarding accident 3 years ago. He has 17 screws in his elbow, 3 of which buldge out. You can see his (very large) scar which runs down his arm over his elbow. Jimmy was averaging 120 MPH in the shoulder lane for about 2 hours when he had to rush Chris to the emergency room that fateful afternoon.

I met Vinny Raffa at the Nouveau! party. I didn't realize it was Vinny Raffa until I finally look a good look at his face and everything he was wearing. Notice his custom dunks. My friend Adrienne said his dunks are just the De La Soul ones modified (possibly). Nice guy, he gave me a t-shirt.

Vinny Raffa has a whole lines of stickers, boards, shirts, and DVDs adorned with his face and profile info.

You can find more info. on Vinny Raffe at his website.

I met Chi (pronounched tchaah-EYE) at Hanger Bar last summer. I might've met him at Niagara on Sundays, but I am not sure. I distinctly remember him telling me that the bottom floor of Niagara was covered in blood after his band played, I am guessing it was a sort of theatrics thing and no one got hurt (hopefully).

Chi LOVES horror movies. The first movie Chi saw was a Troma film when he was 7 years old with his uncle. His uncle was the person who turned him onto all types of horror movies. Offhand from what I remember, Chi has Freddy Kreuger, Pumpkinhead, Bela Lugosi, and various other (A LOT) famous horror icons. I am pretty sure Chi has his whole body tattooed. The right neck picture is of the Crypt keeper from Tales from the Crypt, but it's a bit blurry. You can see a pirate Misfits spider in his left arm picture along with the date '8.26.82' which is the DOB of his best friend of 7 years- Susan.

Chi plays in the bands Zombie Vandals and Smell of UV Death, check them out if you are in the area.

I don't remember your name. I'm sorry, I am really bad at names. It sucks too because I talked to you for about 30 minutes as well on Tuesday night. You also couldn't stop going on about the bike hat you were wearing that belongs to your boyfriend. Apparently I met you a few months ago, but I don't remember that happening either.

This girl, when she was 14, stretched her ear out to a 00 gauge using a paintbrush. One day she randomly and spontaneously grabbed the thin end of a paint brush and shoved it through her ears. She described as a sort of painful- yet euphoric experience. She doesn't have any jewelry in right now in the photo. She also has her septum pierced as well.

Mystery girl, please e-mail because you had another interesting story as well.

I don't remember where I originally met Jimi, but I think I might have known him back when I went to camp. The girl in the photo is a friend of his, but I unfortunately don't remember her name.

Jimi occasionally goes by the alias 'The Heartist.' He has a heart tattooed on his right hand. The diamond pin he has on his suit is the same heart he has tattooed on his hand. His friend has hearts on her upper forearms. He wanted to say his tattoo is the 'visual representation of Motion Picture Soundtrack by Radiohead.' Jimi loves Radiohead he has one of the Radiohead crazy bears tattooed on his right forearm.

I met Arthur a few month's ago at Jimi's apartment on the LES. Some people say we look fairly similar, I am pretty sure it's just the hair. When we first talked he mentioned about how painful his tattoos were to get- the under arm is a fairly sensitive spot on the body.

Arthur has a pair of guns (pistols) underneath each of his biceps. His right one is a bit more decorated, I am assuming the left one will be similar in the future. Arthur was in bit of a rush to get home because he had work the next morning, it was about 2 AM when I took these photos.

I met 'Black Face Jesus' back in early December. Here he is at the Nouveau! party on Valentine's Day. He made some huge waves in various online nerd blogs, but his popularity faded out (probably due to the holidays). He's been interviewed on Swedish & Japanese TV, been in the Howard Stern March, was a regular gawker.com and he almost got murdered by a bunch of brain dead beefy marines in late December. He was also cheated out of $100 from the Rated X party at Scenic (FYI: the door guy is a huge douchebag).

He wears a crown of thorns, an American flag, a diaper, AF1's or Reeboks and wears black face. Words of 'peace' and 'love' can be found scrawled in marker on his body sometimes.

His muse is Jimi Turco. He only could only talk about promoting the hybrid taxi. He apparently enjoys oatmeal too.

More info. regarding this character can be found @ www.myspace.com/blackfacejesus

I met Missy last night (Valentine's Day) at the Nouveau! party at Fat Baby. Missy is a photographer.

Missy has a heart on the back of her upper arm w/the banner 'NEVER LET YOU DOWN.' Her brother has the same tattoo on the opposite arm.

She also has cherry blossoms & waves on her shoulders / chest. She has a lower back piece, but the lighting wasn't so great at the bar.

I never really met Nico. Whenever I am around him he is usually drunk (a lot). In this instance I was at Rush Hour (@ 134 Ludlow St.) around 11 PM and he was offering everyone free margaritas. Nico confuses me with another Sean (who is way uglier & fatter than I am). I am assuming this happens a lot when people have the same name and are at the same place. Nico DJs a lot and runs a whole lot of fun parties.

Nico has a knife tattooed on his inner left arm which is a tribute to one of his late friends.

He also has 'BFF' tattooed on his inner lip, which obviously means 'best friends forever.' His 'BFF' has this as well.

I met Emily 'The Magnificent' in the circus skills class I took last year. Emily is one of the coolest people I know.

Emily's life is dedicated to the circus. She basically lives, breaths and eats anything and everything circus related. A problem I had with the class (she also agrees) I took last year is that people didn't take it too seriously. Circus is certainly a lifestyle, an art, as well as a career. Circus performers (all and any) each all have to put their bodies through rigorous training.

Emily has an abstract drawing on her lower back. It is a piece of artwork that she had seen a few years ago over the summer. She would always walk by this house, during the summer, which old men occupied. One day she walked in and had seen this abstract piece of artwork hanging. It was as Emily described it as 'a wheel with teeth.' One random day she walked into the house (when no one was there) and snapped a photo of it, which she showed me. She was fascinated with the artwork. She got it tattooed by someone who at the school I attend now, who did it VERY VERY VERY BAD. She later on got it redone to how it is now.

Emily has a pair of circles on her wrists as well as her legs. She has had a recurring dream since she was 8 or 9 where she is crucified in front of a court room with screws, sort of like a stigmata. The circles are where the screws would go.

She has an eye on the back of her neck split in half which represent herself and her duality.

The 4 circles on her upper back represent herself and three other siblings.

Emily also had a serious injury to her foot in her senior year of highschool. She had always been obsessed with speed skating (still is). After consuming all aspects of the sport (books, videos, articles, etc.) she one day just tried and within 10 seconds of stepping on the ice she seriously injured herself.

Emily wanted to add this regarding the injury:

-turned ankle 180 degrees backward for 4min= spiral fracture of both lower leg bones(fibia and tibia)/fractured and dislocated the ankle bone (had to be completely reconstructed from the inside out)

-spent the last half of my senior year at home in a wheelchair (mostly watching movies and smoking pot)

-point of interest: had a total of two surgeries/six casts, my dad took out seventeen surgical staples and took off the last cast with a razor blade and a rotating saw on the front porch of our house ( I didn't want to go to senior Ball with a smelly cast)

Updates soon. <3

For sake of privacy this person wanted to remain anonymous:

I met 'P.' when I went to school at SVA a 'few' years ago. I never really knew P. that well, but he lived a floor above or below me if I remember correctly. I would randomly would run into P. in the past year at any bar every other week or so.

P. suffered from a rare condition called 'Pituitary Dwarfism.' Pituitary dwarfism is when a person's pituitary gland doesn't excrete growth hormones throughout the body. When a 'normal' person hits puberty their pituitary gland excretes the hormone, so guys grow to immense heights, girls begin to grow a chest, butt, etc. This is just an example, but your pituitary gland is always working when you are born until you die.

P. 'was' a pituitary dwarf. He was until 6th grade. He started taking HDH hormone (artificial) by injecting it in both his arm and anus (butt). He did this for 5 YEARS, EVERY SINGLE DAY. Through this period he grew, P. mentioned it wasn't until the last year he really noticed changes in his height and growth. Now, P. is healthy young man, you wouldn't even know he was / is a dwarf at one point in his life. He is a 'normal' height and has 'normal' features. P. seemed pretty sensitive about it, even though we were joking about it. His friend (who I also went to school with) vouched for him, as this seems a not-so-everyday body story.

P. also mentioned that the HDH hormone made his penis grow to a ridiculous size, but he said this jokingly, supposedly...

I met Josh over the summer at San Loco (!). This is pretty amazing seeing that is both our favorite place to eat in NYC. Josh runs a clothing label called DCMA Collective.

His most intense piece is his Jesus piece on his left arm. When we first met, I believe he said that he sat for 4-6 hours (?) Josh will e-mail me soon hopefully explaining his work, as he was pretty busy Saturday night.

From Josh!

Tony Morel and Grant Cobb do most of my tattoos in D.C. at Jinx Proof.

Left arm:

Stained glass Jesus, flammability sign (I got this when I decided to try and remind myself to control my temper) and circled cross, all done by Tony Morel.

On the inside of my left arm I have a lock—let’s just say it’s a reminder (by Tony Morel).

I have a black sparrow and three stars on the back of my arm that I got in North Carolina at some horrible shop down there when I was about 19. I also have the letter SJBR in a box on the inside of my left wrist; they are the first letters of my family members. One day there will be letters on my right wrist for my wife and kids.

Right arm:

A harp, trophy, the letters “AMC” on top of my wrist, all tattooed by Grant Cobb. He has AMC, too.

I have five diamonds on my arm for each member of my family, by Tony Morel

There’s the Irish Flag on the back of my arm. It’s the first tattoo I got with my brothers when we were young. Above it is a white sparrow. My brothers and I all have the Irish flag as out first tattoo. We all have three stars on us. We all have AMC on our wrists and hands.

I have a Hellcat—yes, a Hellcat—on my arm. I wish it was an 86 in a circle. Wrong Armstrong idol; shouldn’t have another man as an idol at all. That’s all I have to say about that. Tony laughed the whole time he did it. One day I’ll have an 86.

The only real color on my body is 50 red Fleur De Lis. They stand for rebirth and purity. I have a 77 on the back of my arm and a crown in a circle, a “M: for Madden, and, on the inside of my right arm, I have a light bulb. Let’s just say I’ll never forget. Tony Morel did all of these tattoos.

On my collarbones (clavicles) I have the words “LIFE LONG” in blue, by Grant Cobb. I will be blue collar until the day I die.

I met Malorie at Don Hill's last night.

Malorie has a scar on her knee from skateboarding from over the summer. Yes, I realize it looks like a bruise...but shitty lighting-shitty camera.

I met Kyle at Don Hill's last night.

Kyler is working two upper sleeves at the moment. His right arm is currently in the works. He has the four elements theme (earth, wind, water, fire) with three animals with each element as well. The detail on the bats is incredible and these photos don't really do them justice. He got his work done at Lark Tattoo in Long Island.

I met Erin early last December. She is from Georgia.

Erin had her ears pierced by a plastic surgeon when she was 6 years old. Her parents were very paranoid about getting it done and decided not to go a mall (good choice) to get them done. They obviously made the decision for her, I'm a bit indifferent about parents piercing their children's ears- but it's still slightly better at 6 then 2 or 3. Also whether or not a plastic surgeon is better than a conventional piercer is another story... The doctors name was Dr. Zobowitz (friend of the family) and he still currently operates today.

I met Ariel last year at some point, I can't remember where exactly- but it was most likely at some bar. Ariel works at Crumpler bags on the weekends- but she is an aspiring costume jewelry maker. Crumpler makes various types of book and messenger bags and can even customize them with your own design.

During highschool, Ariel had taken a metal shop class. She instantly fell in love with the class. Taking this class, she made various types of small pieces of jewelry, two pieces being small rings with blue and green stones- which she wasn't wearing. Ariel wasn't wearing anything (today) that she made, but her younger sister does wear pieces that she has made.

Ariel currently is a student at FIT. She has her associates in jewelry design, but is now taking her bachelors in accessory design. Accessory design focuses on things like bags and shoes. Her first year of jewelry design was more studio work and her second year was focused on the design aspect. I asked about the torch used to melt and mold metal and Ariel said that the small tiny torches don't cut it- so she uses those giant ones you might see car mechanics use. Ariel today works on her jewelry design at home (on her work box) 3-4 nights a week.

The other weekend- a color blind person came Crumpler. Ariel had to help him pick out a bag- he first picked the purple bag- but Ariel recommended another.

Ariel has a small star tattooed on her right wrist. It is from the children's book the Little Prince. Her mother would always read this book to her when she was child. it is on the one possession shes was a little girl. At some point she hopes to get a fleur-de-lis, but that's another story...

I met Nathan at Don Hill's last night. Nathan came all the way from VA to see Sigor Ros play MSG. He is actually a friend of Charles, they both came to NYC over the weekend.

Nathan has two scars on his elbows. They are both from entirely seperate occasions. When he was 4 (?) and lived in Pittsburgh, he had and his sister were running towards each other from opposite ends, Nathan went face first through a clear glass door, breaking the glass, resulting in a bloody mess. He has this scar from that day. The other scar, however, he can't remember where he got from.

I met Charles at Don Hill's last night. Charles came all the way from VA to see Sigor Ros play MSG. I hear a lot about this band every day more and more, maybe I should listen to them more..?

Charles has a viking ship tattooed on his right bicep. Charles has nordic ancestry. He designed the flash himself. On his spare time, Charles likes to draw flash for fun and for his friends (to get done). He got it done at Absolute Art in VA.'

Charles is also extremely tall.

I met Melissa at the Jerry Tam show that night as well. Melissa is also a friend of Gina's.

Melissa and I talked briefly about a condition she had when she was in 3rd grade. It turns out that when she was younger she suffered from a condition where her rib cage would grow (eventually) into her heart and pierce the outside tissue of it. Her rib cage was growing in 'concave.' In order to prevent this, Melissa had to get a metal bar surgically placed into her chest, which would eventually help space out her ribs and prevent them growing into her heart, so they would grow in 'naturally.' Think of the size of the bar as being sort of like a 12" ruler. Melissa had to have this in her body for about a year. She had it from 3rd grade to 4th grade. When I asked her how it looked, she said towards the end of the year, it sort of looked like how the surgical implants people get placed on their arms and forehead, it was raised slightly above her skin. At the end of the year, they had to slice open her chest and take the bar out, but she is fine now.

I asked Melissa if there was any memorable story regarding the surgery and she said that while her and her grandmother were shopping in a Payless shoe store, the censor alarm went off (due to the metal). Her grandmother had to explain the situation.

I met Cory at the bottom floor of the Tribeca Grand Hotel in the AM going into Friday. I saw Cory twice this evening, he plays guitar in the band Living Things, which played after the Jerry Tam show around 8 PMish then around 1 AMish at Tribeca Grand. The singer moved a lot like Jagger,. I had seen (Cory's) his tattoo on his right forearm at Jerry Tam, but didn't have a chance to speak to him until I randomly ran him into later that evening.

Cory has a old newspaper clipping graphic from the 60's tattooed on his right forearm. It's of Alan B. Shepard, the first US astronaut in space. Cory has always had an interest in astronomy. He had gotten it in 2001 in St. Louis, Missouri- where he and the Living Things are from. It was done by Brad Fink, who also owns a shop in NYC- Dare Devil Tattoo. Cory went in for two sessions, the outline- then all the black. Occasionally (rare) the tattoo might keloid, but that's normal.

You can also see his scars from playing guitar in the bottom photo.

Thursday night, I deliberated whether or not to go home around 12ish- but I swung by the Tribeca Grand Hotel. 2ManyDJ's were playing alongside the Living Things. There was this artwork hanging around the bottom floor of pregnant woman in militarish garb with babies in their arms that looked more unborn babies. I asked the desk people if they knew who the artist, but alas no one knew...

There was also 2 $1 bills taped with scotch tape to the wall that I kept staring at for 15 minutes until I walked over through a sea of people with expensive drinks and ripped it off the wall. I am now $2 richer.

Thursday night I went to a fashion show for Jerry Tam. Gina from addVice invited me. There were a lot of bodies on hand with interesting stories. I unfortunately couldn't talk to any of the tall, thin, beautiful models because they were seperated from the normal people and hered into a corral in the back of this old church thing were it was held. If you noticed I said that tall, thin, beautiful- where are the fashion shows for the normal people, not everyone is waif delicate thing...

I also swiped an unopened bottle of champagne.

Friday, February 10, 2006

I met Jonny a month ago. Jonny would always complain to Kelsey and Jess how I wouldn't talk to him, but he never made the attempt himself to talk to me. We finally talked about a week and 1/2 ago.

Jonny has his ears gauged out as well as his septum pierced. The most interesting part of Jonny's body is his tattoo which reads 'insecure' which is scralled in script over his collar bone.

Jonny has always been insecure his entire life, both emotionally-spirtitually-and physically. Jonny felt that wearing the word insecure would make help him bear with this and feel better. Jonny says that people often ask him what happens if he finally feels secure with who is. He only tells that them no one can feel truly secure with themselves and everyone will always have sort of insecurity. I agree with him.

I met Ali C. Wednesday night at hanger bar. My girlfriend and I met up with Jess who was going to a night there being DJed by both Ali C. and Johnny.

I mentioned my website to Ali C. and I definitely mentioned wanting to meet someone who had plastic surgery. Ali C. and I talked for about thirty minutes about her plastic surgery.

Ali C. is 18 years old.

Ali C. got a nose job about 9-10 months ago. Ali C. was brought up Christian but her father is Jewish. Ali 'inherited' her father's 'Jewish nose.' Ali's entire family has a history of plastic surgery. Her father, himself, had gotten a nose job when he was 17 years old. Ali's surgery was naturally expected- there was no question about her getting it done at all. She (and her parents) compared it something that it was just something done- think of it sort of like getting braces. She described it as sort of an area type state of mind- Ali grew up in West Hartford, CT- a predominately very-very rich suburban upper class society.

Ali went through with the surgery and she couldn't be happier. She felt that she was actually herself, Ali, and not Ali with the 'nose.' She felt that she could have a conversation with someone and they would be paying attention to her and the conversation and not her specific facial features. She felt that she finally was actually herself.

I had asked her about the healing process and she said it would take up to a year (expected in most plastic surgery). She said though that in her case it was taking longer because of unforseen circumstances. It's exactly like any type of modification or surgery, little or no contact with that area is mandatory. Ali however, being a beautiful young woman, her nose has of course been in certain situations where it might craze another individual's face. She said that on certain days her nose can even feel different and slightly out of place (by her own feeling and eye).

Ali had also made the decision to get her lips done. She had gotten them done shortly after her nose and her parents were actually highly against it. They made Ali pay for the surgery herself. Ali felt that her lips were too generic, that is why she wanted to get them done. She had them injected with resalin, which is sort of like collagen. The resalin only lasts in the body for about 9 months and when I spoke to her on Wednesday night it was just the end of 9 months. She said that the pain of getting her lips done was way more painful then her nose. Now- she says that she would never get them re-done due to the pain and because she felt the surgery made no difference and it was only slight.

Ali also mentioned that her 74 year old grandma was a plastic surgery fiend. She said that her grandma is even more attractive than herself and has everything from eyes-boobs-butt-everything. She said that she looks exactly like Debbie Harry-Debbie Harry when she was Debbie 'Blondie' Harry, NOT the Debbie Harry of today.

When I asked about her getting any more surgery she said that it was not out of the question and she would think twice about getting anything else done if she wanted it in the future (ie: facelift at 30).

Ali's sister said that Shakespeare wrote about the beauty of a woman's hair, eyes, & lips. He never wrote about the nose. She said that the reason why is is because the best nose is the nose that you can't notice. Ali got what she wanted.

I met Christian last night at the Reed Space store / gallery.

Christian has a lot of tattoos, I could see that he had his neck, arms, and hands. When I asked if I took a photo of his hands, he showed me his 'Fuck the World' tattoo. That was really the extent of our conversation.

I met Alicia last night at the Reed Space store / gallery. Alicia is a designer and works for Nori, a denim company. I immediately when up to her because she I could easily see that she had a hand tattoo.

Alicia has the arabic transaltion for 'love' tattooed on her hand. It's an accented so the top portion is the actual word and the bottom half is shaped like a heart. The design is by a calligrapher called Lasad.

Alicia was in a non-corporate bookstore about 3 years ago when she saw the design and fell in love with it. She got her hand tattooed because she felt that was the best place to put it. She described how she would in a sense transfer 'love' or good energy through to people when she would shake their hand.

I met (finally) Amanda last night at the Reed Space store / gallery last night where Jerry works.

Amanda has an amazing coincidence story which correlates with her last name. Amanda is the last of the 'Martin' family, she's an only child. Amanda was brought up Jewish. She's extremely interested in geneology. Her line of 'Martins' is apparently the longest line of 'Martins.' So in other words Amanda is the last original 'Martin.' She holds this very close to her heart and got 'martin' tattooed on her wrist.

Amanda works as a sweater designer. She was previously employed by Polo, but now works for David Chu who started Nautica, but sold it, and now runs his own line- David Chu. We talked about how many-many times Amanda would walk down the street and see people wearing her own designs, and naturally be very excited.

When Amanda worked for Polo she had to get some sense of the history of sweaters. Apparently the origin of sweaters stems back to Irish fisherman. It turns out that Irish fisherman would wear sweaters bearing a design that would relate to their LAST NAME. The reason for this was because since there was no form of identification- the sweater was their ID in a sense. So when (and if) they died at sea, they would know who they were by the sweater they wore. Strange coicidence.

She also plans (maybe?) to get her family crest on her as well. We also talked about the Bodies exhibition. Amanda also has a lot of cavitites and plans to get a few gold teeth.

I met Stephanie at the Reed Space last night as well. She is a visual merchandiser. She also makes great brownies. I met her through Amanda, Jerry's girlfriend.

Stephanie has two crooked pinky fingers. Her right one is a bit more evident, as seen in the picture. Her fingers work fine, she's not in pain or impaired or anything like that. According to doctors her fingers were broken when she was a fetus and they just grew in that way naturally. When she was younger she was teased for her fingers, but now it doesn't really bother her. Sometimes people will notice today, but it doesn't really bother her if people stare, she just can't understand why people can't just ask about it.

Stephanie also wanted to mentioned that she has a sensitive enlarged upper palette. This means that it's difficult for her to eat hot pizza (cheese) and lollipops.

She also has yellowish lines in her eyeballs which are apparently fatty deposits in her eyeballs.

I met Morgan at the A-List China Town World Tour show at the Reed Space last night. Morgan currently works at the Reed Space
